Dr. Eckardt earned his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Missouri - Columbia in 1983. He completed medical School at St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1987, followed by a residency in internal medicine at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. In 1993, he completed his fellowship in medical oncology at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio and thereafter served as a Clinical Instructor and Phase I Investigator from 1993 to 1995. In 1995, Dr. Eckardt became the Director of the Research Program at the Center for Cancer Care and Research in St. Louis, Missouri,opening a clinical research program in St. Louis to conduct phase I, II and III clinical trials through both co-operative groups and pharma-sponsored trials. He was formerly the Director of the outreach program at The Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Eckardt has been involved in the development of a number of novel cancer agents, including such new drugs as topotecan, docetaxel, gemcitabine and irinotecan. He has authored and published over 127 abstracts, 53 articles, 5 book chapters, 6 educational publications, and 1 editorial. He has presented 31 poster presentation, 2 ASCO podium presentations and over 300 invited lectures. Dr. Eckardt holds memberships in a number of professional societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Missouri Medical Society, and the St. Louis Medical Society.
Dr. Eckart is currently the Chief Medical Officer of DAVA Oncology and is currently serving on the advisory board for ONE Oncology Network for Excellence.
